It all start when chef Awad, a European trained chef, opened his first Le Grandgousier Restaurant Frances in New Jersey.

Chef Awad believed that a fine meal must be topped off with fine desert. He began with home made honey ice cream, fruit tarts, coconut tarts and chocolate mousse. Chocolate seemed to be the special favorite of his clients, so he
created a chocolate tarte that soon became popular.

One day he decided to combine the coconut tart with the chocolate tart and the beloved Black & White was born. This delicious desert soon became a favorite of his customers.

Chef Award enjoyed many recognitions from New York Times, The Star Ledger The Gazette Press, Montclair Times, Cedar Grove Times and other food publications of the greater New York area.

In the early 1980s Chef Awad moved to sunny Sarasota, Florida where he opened another Le Grandousier and once again gained recognition from the local press. The Black & White continued to be the dessert menu highlight and soon became a favorite of the Sarasota area.

Chef Awad retired a few years ago but his heart is still in the kitchen. After many requests from past customers, he now offers this delicious treat online.
The Black & White tarte is not your usual every day kind of tarte; this dessert will turn any dinner into a special occasion.
